What are All on Four Dental Implants?

All on four dental implants is a procedure that replaces all of the teeth on the upper and/or lower arch with a permanent, screw-retained bridge or denture.

Four titanium posts are surgically implanted into the jaw bone to securely support the new bridge. The implants will bond naturally with the bone and provide a permanent and secure new root for your artificial teeth.

Benefits of all on four dental impants include:

  • Full arch restoration
  • Shorter installation procedure than other implants
  • Prevents further bone loss
  • Diminishes the need for a bone graft

Procedure Journey

Before The Procedure

Before your procedure, we will take x-rays and impressions of your mouth in order to design your new implants. During this initial stage, our San Francisco Dentist will answer any questions you may have and provide you with a comprehensive treatment plan so that you know what to expect every step of the way.

The Procedure

A local anesthetic will be used to make sure you are comfortable. Your prosthodontist will prepare your gums by removing any remaining teeth or diseased and infected tissue.

The doctor will then carefully place the titanium screws that will act as anchors for your new implant. The screws will be implanted at precise spots and angles in order to evenly support your denture and utilize the strongest bone mass.

Once your implants have been perfectly placed, the area will be cleaned and sutured and prepared for healing. It can take several months after the implant placement for healing to be complete. Once you’ve recovered from the initial procedure, your custom-made dentures or bridge will be affixed to your new implant, seamlessly and securely replacing your lost teeth.

After The Procedure

The recovery from all on four implants is less tedious than regular dental implants because healing begins right away. In order to ensure a smooth recovery, we recommend lots of rest, especially in the three to four days immediately following your procedure. Do not rinse or touch the surgical areas except to clean with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Please refrain from any kind of smoking after the surgery as it will delay healing.
