FAQs

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign’s nearly invisible aligners straighten teeth by applying a small and consistent amount of pressure, gradually pushing teeth into perfect formation. Your orthodontist will provide you with several weeks of aligners in advance and they will be changed every week or two, as directed by your doctor.

Invisalign generally works in about 12-18 months depending on the severity of the case.

Will I speak with a lisp?

The Invisalign Process

The Invisalign process begins with a thorough consultation and examination of your teeth and gums. Using our CEREC technology, we will take a digital scan of your teeth to get a complete picture of your teeth and plan your treatment.

As soon as your first aligners have been made, you’re ready to begin! Your San Francisco dentist will provide you with several weeks of aligners in advance so you can continue your treatment without the hassle of consistent adjustment visits. The effectiveness of your treatment relies primarily on your consistent and correct aligner use. Wear aligners at all times and only remove to eat, drink, or clean your teeth. If you wear your aligners as directed you’re on your way to a flawless smile.

After Invisalign

When your Invisalign regimen is complete, your doctor will provide you with a retainer to prevent your teeth from shifting back. In some cases, permanent retainers that are discreetly bonded to the back of your teeth may be available.

Just like the aligners, proper retainer use is necessary for the success of your treatment to be permanent. Talk to your doctor about what kind of retainer is best for you.
